Viveca Massage

Your appointment time begins with an intake interview, in which we talk about your reasons for seeking therapeutic massage. Together we'll come up with a treatment plan to address the issues presented in the intake. Each session is customized to you and your specific needs on the day of your appointment, so your massage may be very different from one session to the next. There is no one-size-fits-all therapeutic massage! If appropriate, your appointment also includes a post-massage reassessment and assignment of homecare, such as stretches or hydrotherapy.

Therapeutic Massage

Grief-induced stress can be experienced most intensely in the first year (or longer) after a loss, as well as around marker days such as anniversaries and holidays. It can be physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting. There is no need to wear a ‘social mask’ to hide your grief at your appointment; there is room for your grief in the treatment space. The grief massage session is designed to allow the grieving client to experience some moments of peace and relaxation by reconnecting with their physical body in a gentle and reassuring way, in a safe and accepting space.

Therapeutic Massage for Grief & Anxiety

Do you suffer from jaw pain, possibly with related headaches, or difficulty chewing? Do you clench or grind your teeth? These issues are commonly seen in patients with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD), and are addressed with TMJ Massage. During a TMJ massage, your therapist may work externally on muscles of the head, neck, and scalp. Other muscles involved in the function of the TMJ are accessed from inside the mouth. Tanya Thomlinson, RMT has taken specialized courses to become certified in intraoral TMJ massage. With intraoral massage, your therapist will wear gloves and use light pressure of a single finger or thumb to palpate and relax the tiny yet important muscles to help alleviate and manage your TMJ-related pain.

TMJ Massage

Have you ever had a massage and then just wanted to stay on the table for a while afterward? This treatment is the one you need! It’s 3 hours of massage plus a 30-minute rest halfway through.

You’ll spend the first 90 minutes supine as we address your anterior: legs, arms and hands, anterior shoulders, and then your neck, jaw, and scalp. Then your therapist will step out of the treatment space while your body and mind enjoy a half-hour of deep rest. You’ll then spend the next 90 minutes prone as we address your back, posterior hips/glutes, and legs, and finish with a foot massage. 

As with all therapeutic massage treatments at Viveca Massage, this session may include cupping and/or hot stones, a flax bag for your eyes, plenty of hot towels, and invigorating peppermint lotion for your feet. Think of this treatment as a 3-1/2 hour mini-vacation, minus the travel.

3-Hour Massage

Massage with Gentle Scar Therapy

Available to book from October through end of March.

The warmth of the heated basalt stones penetrates deeply into the muscle tissue, and the stones’ gentle weight provides a calming effect on the nervous system. The therapist also uses the stones in a more dynamic way to help calm down any areas that feel particularly tense. Hot Stone Massage is incredibly therapeutic, and feels positively luxurious.
